Initial idea
Genre: British gangster
Audience: Teenagers
Setting: House, Tunnel, College

For our intial idea we quickly decided to do a british gangster film as we all shared a mutual liking for that particular genre. We then quickly decided on the names of our characters and the roles that they would play. Character one; Sonny (myself) - Sonny is seen as the boss and leader of the drugs trade, character two; Zee (Isa) - Zee is almost like Sonnys right hand man, his pitball, character three; Sid - Sid (Imran), like Zee is like Sonnys right hand man also, Sid and Zee are Sonnys two subordinates and finally, character four; Deano (Joe) - Deano is like the unofficial member of the group.

Meeting with Bruce
During our meeting with Bruce it became apparant to us that Bruce really knew what he was talking about. We presented Bruce with our genre, and our ideas about the story. Bruce really liked our idea and in particular our plan for the two minute clip. Bruce made our group think more generally and think of the story line as a whole rather than just a two minute clip, as a result of this, we got a better understanding of our film and actually thought of new additional ideas which we could add to our peice.

Prelim/Evaluation

For our prelim we needed to make a a 30 second clip which involved certain shot types such as; shot reverse shot, match on action and keep to the 180 degree rule. We wanted to make a british gansgter genred prelim as our initial idea for our actual video was to create a british gangster film. In our prelim we have Zee who is the bosses right hand man which is in the opening of the first scene, who walks to a door whilst being filmed using the tracking shot technique, then Zee opens the door and that is where we use the first of our three requirments which was match on action, after this Zee walks into a room where his boss (Sonny) and collegue (Sid) are sat, Sonny and Sid are sat on a table with cocaine and a packet of cigarettes which are props we used for mise en scene. When Zee sits down, all the characters read a line or two of diologue and as this diologue is being conveyed we have ticked another requirement off which is shot reverse shot. After filming all our scenes we had noticed that a problem had arised, we didnt keep to the 180 degree rule and it got slightly confusing to who was talking to who, in our final video we will definately focus more on correctly using the 180 degree rule.

The British Gangster Genre
A film that best suits the British gangster genre I believe to be is a film called Snatch. Snatch is based in London and almost has two storylines, one of them being a search for a stolen diamond and the second being a boxing promoter who ends up in an altication with a notorious gangster. The key conventions of a British gangster film are drugs, women, weapons such as guns, money and clothing which most of the time consists of suits. The British gangster genre is seen more as a sub genre to the gangster genre, a film that lies in the gangster genre is  The Godfather, this film is about a New York mafia family and their struggle to protect their empire from other mafia families. The key conventions in a gangster film are somewhat mutual to the ones in a British gangster films, however a way to distinguish the two genres apart is to 1. Focus on regional identity, in Snatch, the dialogue is in English but it has a cockney twist to it which reinforces a stereotype about London gangsters. In The Godfather, the accent is Italian American, which reinforces the stereotype about the mafia in America. 2. The location of of the film, in British gangster films scenes that consist of killings and or tortutrs are normally carried out in an abandand warehouse or factory, or somewhere remote whereas in American gangster films these types of events are carried out in places which are close to the public.

Audience

We have come to a conclusion that our film will be a 15 certificate. This is because of the following:
- Sexual nudity is not included
- Sexual references is not included
- Sexual violence is not included

Due to the genre we believe that our main audience will be males aged mainly between the ages of 15 - 25 and are perhaps a low-mediam social class, we think this because we believe that some of our target audience could relate to the situations within the film.

Location/props/equipment

Location - After discussing with the group we decided on a couple of locations of which we could film at, Sixth form college, Bitterne leisure center tunnel, town center and Bitterne precinct. We chose these locations primarily due to the lighting, we felt that the lighting at each of the venues suited the style and genre of our film which is dark and gritty.

In our film we came to the conclusion not to add dialogue to our final film, we thought that the messages we needed to convey within the film, the sterotypes, music and mise en scene would speak for itself and show the audience what type of genre they are wathcing

Sypnosis

We have come a long way from our initial ideas, along the way we had lost a member of our group therefore we had to adapt our initial ideas. After doing further research of the genre itself, we believe that we now have better ideas than our initial ideas. We concluded on a name for our film which is The Noire, Noire is French for the word black. The colour black represents many things but primarily darkness, darkness refers to the personality and actions of the characters in our film.

Sonny, Zee and Deano AKA The Noire, they were given a task by someone called the Street Godfather, the task was to deliver a suitcase full of drugs worth £450,000 to a certain location, but Deano has other plans and steals the drugs for himself, leaving Sonny and Zee with bounties on their heads, can they track down Deano before the Street Godfather tracks them?
